MIDVAAL APPOINTS NEW MUNICIPAL MANAGER

Midvaal Local Municipality is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Phumudzo Magodi as the new Municipal Manager, effective 1 April 2025. A vacancy was created following the departure of our former Municipal Manager, Mr Anton Groenewald.

Recognising the critical importance of this role, the Municipality expedited the recruitment process to ensure uninterrupted service delivery to our residents. After a rigorous selection and interview process, Mr Magodi emerged as the top candidate.

His appointment was unanimously endorsed at the 3rd Ordinary Council sitting held today, 27 March 2025. Mr Magodi brings a wealth of experience from both the public and private sectors. He has held senior leadership roles in multiple municipalities including Midvaal, serving as Head of Department for Engineering and Technical Services. In these roles, he has been instrumental in the strategic development and implementation of key municipal policies, including the Integrated Development Plan and performance management frameworks to enhance service delivery. His academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds a Master of Engineering (MEng), a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

Additionally, he has completed the Municipal Finance Management Programme (MFMP) at NQF Level 6, equipping him with the financial knowledge required for effective municipal governance. With his extensive expertise in engineering, infrastructure development, and municipal administration, Mr Magodi is well-positioned to drive Midvaal’s continued growth and service excellence.

We are confident that his leadership will further strengthen our commitment to delivering excellent services to our community.

INVITATION FOR SPORTS STAKEHOLDERS MEETING IN MIDVAAL

The abovematter refers.
Sports in Midvaal are currently facing significant challenges, particularly in terms of development,
despite having excellent facilities. The main issues include:
• Underutilization of facilities: Many available sports facilities are not being fully utilized.
• Lack of leadership and coordination: The absence of strong leadership among sports clubs and
associations leads to disjointed efforts.
• Insufficient funding: There is a notable lack of funding for equipment, coaching, and hosting
regular sports events.
These challenges are contributing to the poor state of sports development programs in Midvaal.

In response to these challenges, the Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation Department in Gauteng
Province has recognized the importance of collaboration. They have decided to invite all sports
stakeholders across the district to address these issues. Meetings have been organized according to
local municipalities, with Midvaal Local Municipality being the first to host these discussions.
