Midvaal Local Municipality is proud to announce the completion of two newly developed parks, Noldick Park and Kookrus Park.

This is a part of our commitment to creating safe outdoor spaces for the community.

These parks are designed to be inclusive recreational areas where families can spend quality time together, children can play safely, and residents can stay active in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Midvaal has successfully developed twelve (12) parks in the past three years, with Noldick and Kookrus Park bringing the total to fourteen (14).

The addition of Noldick Park and Kookrus Park is another milestone in our ongoing efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and getting our residents to enjoy the outdoors through well-maintained and accessible public spaces.

The Noldick Park was developed with a budget of over R1.7 million and equipped with Fencing, Kiddies’ play equipment, Outdoor gym equipment, Full combi court, Signboards and Benches.

The Kookrus Park was developed at a cost of over  R 1.3 million, the scope of work including a Kiddies’ play equipment, Outdoor gym equipment, Half court, Signboard and Benches.

Midvaal Municipality recognises the importance of open spaces in fostering a sense of community, encouraging an active lifestyle, and providing a place for relaxation.

Midvaal remains committed to delivering sustainable and innovative recreational spaces that benefit all residents.

Midvaal Local Municipality has once again been recognised for its excellence, receiving a prestigious honour from PMR.africa at the Golden Arrow Awards.

Midvaal received three awards in the Local Government Initiatives in the following categories:

1. Outstanding – 1st overall winner for Municipalities doing most: To clean the environment and to develop and enhance infrastructure
2. An Excellent Award for Municipalities doing the most: for job creation, social upliftment, to attract foreign investment, to attract tourism and to fight crime
3. The Executive Mayor, Alderman Peter Teixeira received the following award: Outstanding – 1st overall award for Pro-active Mayors.

Midvaal Local Municipality has achieved an unqualified with no material findings (clean audit) for the 2023/2024 financial year.

This audit result marks Midvaal as the proud holder of eleven (11) consecutive clean audits, reaffirming our commitment to financial accountability and good governance.

The announcement was made by the Office of the Auditor-General (AG) during an ordinary Council meeting held on Thursday, 30 January 2025.

The municipality was audited on its financial statements, annual performance report, and compliance with legislation.

This includes, among other things, performance reports, annual reports, as well as procurement and contract management, revenue management, and asset management.

The AG found that the municipality is spending enough to maintain the infrastructure to ensure sustainable and continuous service delivery in the Midvaal region.

In the integrity and transparency category, the Auditor-General noted the continued implementation of daily disciplines and the strengthening of a culture of accountability through effective consequence management.

The clean audit outcome reaffirms our commitment to being a transparent and accountable government.

We will continue to work even harder to ensure that clean audits translate into tangible service delivery that every resident can see, feel and experience.

Applications for the Midvaal Mayoral Student Financial Aid are now open.

The Mayoral Student Financial Aid was launched in 2024 to support students pursuing higher education qualifications.

Following the high volume of applications received and a thorough review process, twenty-nine (29) students were approved for financial aid.

These students received various forms of support, including tuition, registration fees, and essential study resources such as laptops and books.

A total of R750,000 was allocated to this endeavour to address the significant demand for study assistance.

As an administration, we are committed to fulfilling the Mayoral undertaking of creating opportunities for all.

Our aim is to ease the burden on students so they can pursue higher education and contribute meaningfully to society.

Applications for the Mayoral Student Financial Aid are currently open and will close on Friday, 24 January 2025.

Please note that this opportunity is available only to full-time students enrolled in public institutions.

We encourage eligible individuals to make the most of this opportunity.

Midvaal Local Municipality has invested R10 million in building an innovative and state-of-the-art fuel depot. This project will assist in cost-containment measures to reduce the expenditure on refuelling municipal vehicles.
Midvaal has over 300 vehicles that regularly refuel to service our vast geographical landscape. Constructing our own depot allows us to purchase fuel at wholesale market value, reducing our fuel bill by 6% to 8% per annum, which is around R2 to R3 million a year.
The fuel depot was upgraded from the previous capacities of 10,000 litres for petrol and 4,800 litres for diesel to the increased capacities of 50,000 litres for diesel and 25,000 litres for petrol.
The newly upgraded fuel depot features smart technology that monitors the quantity of fuel dispensed in real-time. Each transaction is linked to the respective vehicle and odometer reading. The intention is that misuse and abuse of fuel should be substantially reduced. Theft and misappropriation will also be minimised. Vehicle tags, driver tags, and fuel tags are linked to ensure that staff behaviour on fuel consumption is monitored.
An exciting green energy feature has been added to the fuel depot with solar panels installed above the canopy. The energy is stored in batteries that power both the fuel station and the depot offices.
Staying true to our commitment to empowering Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), two local SMMEs were contracted to provide security and ablution services during the upgrade process. A total of six local people were employed for the project.
This upgrade initiative demonstrates Midvaal’s unwavering commitment to cost containment, and ongoing efforts to ensure that every cent is spent wisely. Through the installation of this digital fuel depot innovation and change in our approach will deliver better operational efficiencies.
