MIDVAAL LAUNCHES ADDITIONAL FEATURES TO DIGITAL PLATFORMS

In a pioneering step towards enhancing e-government service delivery, the Midvaal Local Municipality has partnered with Nedbank Commercial Banking to introduce transactional services on its new WhatsApp Chatbot and the updated My Midvaal App. This collaboration signifies a significant stride towards providing residents with a centralised digital platform for payment of municipal services, in alignment with the municipality's digital strategy.

Responding directly to the Midvaal Mayoral commitments to adopt innovative solutions to enhance Municipal services, this initiative offers residents an efficient, and secure alternative to accessing municipal services. It represents a strategic advancement towards fulfilling the municipality's vision of enhancing digital transformation, fostering citizen engagement, and ensuring services are easily accessible to all residents.

MIDVAAL LAUNCHES LIBRARY BUS SERVICE TO PROMOTE LITERACY

Midvaal Local Municipality has launched a mobile Library Bus Service to promote literacy, and learning, and to improve accessibility for residents living in remote areas.

The Library Bus service will go beyond the brick-and-mortar location, bringing library services directly to communities that lack traditional libraries in their areas.

Residents living in more secluded and peripheral areas such as rural areas, remote communities, and underserved neighbourhoods will have easier access to library services. The Library Bus Service will also extend to the elderly in retirement homes.

This mobile service initiative will improve access to books, educational resources, internet access, and other materials for people who struggle to reach libraries.

The mobile library will operate on schedule in the following Wards: 1, 2, 5, 7, 11, 12, and 13.

MIDVAAL RATED THE MOST FINANCIALLY SUSTAINABLE MUNICIPALITY FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Midvaal Local Municipality has been rated the most financially sustainable municipality for the third consecutive year by Ratings Afrika. Midvaal tied for first place with Mossel Bay Municipality.

Ratings Afrika published its annual Municipal Sustainability Index (MFSI) results of the 104 top-performing municipalities plus the eight metros for the financial year end of 2023.

Amongst these, Midvaal scored 74 out of 100, an increase of two points from the 2022 financial sustainability.

According to Ratings Afrika, only a handful of municipalities achieve a score above 70, and Midvaal is the only municipality in Gauteng to achieve this.

The other four are in the Western Cape: Mossel Bay (74), Saldanha Bay (73), Swellendam (72) and Swartland Municipality (71).

MIDVAAL LOCAL MUNICIPALITY TO HOST THE SECOND ANNUAL FIT TO FIGHT FIRE COMPETITION AND EXPO

Midvaal Local Municipality is proud to announce its second annual Fit to Fight Fire Competition and Expo set to take place on 25 May 2024, at the Meyerton Sports Club. Following the resounding success of last year's event, this year's competition promises even more thrills, as Fire and Rescue teams compete to become the fittest firefighting team in South Africa.

The competition, open to Fire and Rescue teams from across the country, will witness participants engaging in rigorous challenges that test their skills, agility, and teamwork. The competition consists of five challenging stages that will highlight the dedication and readiness of the firefighters who stand at the forefront of safeguarding communities:

Stage 1 – Hammer Drill (Sponsored by Industrial Fire and Hazard Control)

MIDVAAL HOSTS BENEFICIARIES OF THE MAYORAL STUDENT FINANCIAL AID PROGRAMME

Midvaal Local Municipality hosted twenty-nine (29) recipients of the Mayoral Student Financial Aid Programme today.

The Municipality launched the Midvaal Mayoral Student Financial Aid Programme in January 2024 to provide support for those pursuing higher education qualifications.

The municipality allocated R750,000 to the program to address the significant demand for study assistance.

MIDVAAL GIVES SUPPORT TO INDIVIDUALS LIVING WITH MOBILITY CHALLENGES

Midvaal Local Municipality has donated at least 40 wheelchairs and 20 crutches as part of its commitment to community welfare and supporting individuals with mobility challenges.

The donation was spearheaded by the Executive Mayor, Alderman Peter Teixeira and Members of the Mayoral Committee.

This initiative aligns with the municipality’s mission of being a people-centred and compassionate institution.

The Executive Mayor made the following remarks: “Our priority is to uplift as many of our residents as possible, using programs such as this. We hope today’s donation will alleviate some of the challenges faced by those living with mobility challenges. We want to create a Midvaal that is accessible to all. We want to build a Midvaal that all our residents can proudly call home.”

MIDVAAL LAUNCHES STATE-OF-THE-ART PODCAST STUDIO IN SICELO LIBRARY

As part of the National Library Week Midvaal Local Municipality officially opened a state-of-the-art Podcast Studio at Sicelo Library.

This innovative facility aims to empower community members to create and share their stories, ideas, and voices through the medium of podcasts.

The Podcast Studio is equipped with recording equipment and editing software. This platform will serve as a creative hub where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can explore the art of podcasting, express themselves, and engage with diverse topics relevant to the community.

The Podcast Studio at Sicelo Library will be available for bookings by individuals, groups, and organisations interested in producing podcasts on a wide range of topics.

Midvaal Local Municipality has launched the rehabilitation of Johan Le Roux Road in Meyerton at a cost of R18 million.

Johan Le Roux road plays a critical role in the movement of goods and services which is essential to the local economy. The road also carries heavier loads and experiences increased traffic.

Over the years, Johan Le Roux Road has deteriorated due to factors such as wear and tear, weather, traffic loads, and other environmental factors.

On Monday, 29 January 2024, Midvaal Local Municipality and Sedibeng District partnered with Cell C and MiDesk Global to donate 100 desks to Ratasetjhaba Primary School.

The project is aimed at improving learner literacy development and academic performance. These innovative desks transform into a portable wheelie schoolbag and are equipped with a solar light and USB charging portals.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning for all.

MIDVAAL COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY APPROVES R1.8 BILLION 2023/2024 FULLY FUNDED FINANCIAL BUDGET

Midvaal Local Municipality Council has unanimously approved the 2023/2024 financial budget.

This follows extensive IDP and draft budget engagements with residents and different stakeholders from across the municipality.

The budget is a result of the municipality's identification of strategic objectives and its efforts to balance them with the available resources to ensure sustainable and exceptional service delivery.

The Gauteng Provincial Treasury assessed our budget and found the budget to be credible, relevant, and fully funded.

SEBENZA MBOKODO

The Sebenza Mbokodo Women's Fund Project was established in 2019. It's primary focus is to provide access to funding specifically to qualifying black women owned businesses that operate in the informal trading sector within the Midvaal Local Municipality. Through this project, black women businesses have not only been provided with funding but access to development where needed.
