Cllr Malcolm Hack

A community man at heart With a successful background in business, for Malcolm Hack, the Mayoral Committee Member for Consumer Services, service delivery in Midvaal is a priority.
He says the local authority is working towards attaining the best for its residents within tight budgetary constraints. “What we do in Midvaal, we do well.”
His wish is to see development take root so that the region can grow and become a benchmark for the rest of the country.
Although a small municipality, at 2 000 square kilometres Midvaal is the biggest landsize council in Gauteng. The infrastructure is old, but Midvaal council is upgrading it systematically.
“Our policy is to maintain what we have. We are currently upgrading 600km of gravel road. We are working smart by prioritising and spending our budget wisely,” Hack says.
He explains that he has an open door policy and believes that complaints must be attended to swiftly. He also follows-up to ensure that problems don’t cascade.
“Once a complaint is registered, five working days’ grace is given before action has to be taken.”
Hack describes himself as a community-orientated man. He is active in the neighbourhood watch and Community Policing Forum.
With a high unemployment rate in the Midvaal region, he implements a policy of using local labour for any municipal projects.
Projects in progress include upgrading the central business district in Meyerton, painting bus shelters and replacing municipal refuse bins.
Hack is keen to see the Bantu Bonke hydroponics project get off the ground and to establish a catfish farming initiative with Rand Water, as a high protein food source.
