Happiness was evident when Midvaal Local Municipality officially celebrated national arbor day at Panfontein Primary School. The event was organized by the Community Services Department and the smiles of the children indicated the huge success the event had. The day was filled with laughter, singing and great performances from the learners which included poems, dancing and a choir performance.
In attendance of the day was the ward councilor, councilor Wayne De Agruella, representatives from Sedibeng District Municipality, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) and the Department of Water Affairs (DWA).
Mr. Charles Nyalungu from Community Services Department opened the event and the deputy principal Mrs. Pule welcomed everyone in attendance. Then Councilor Wayne De Agruella briefly spoke about the ward before welcoming all the distinguished guests. Mr. Ephraime Mazinyo and Mr. Lucky Makgarengi from DWA, Mr. Lwando Paraffin from DAFF gave presentations in relation to the theme (Forest and Water) of Arbor Day. Thereafter, the Executive Mayor made his key note address and highlighted the importance of trees, climate change and how the learners and the school should look after the whole environment. While thanking the whole school management for their thankless work they continue doing.
The kids also received goody bags from the Municipality and DAFF donated 12 different trees. The Executive Mayor along with the other attendees planted all the trees in closing of the event.
