On 30 August 2019, Midvaal launched the Sebenza Imbokodo Women’s Fund. The initiative is aimed at assisting women-owned businesses operating in the informal sector who are primarily from disadvantaged backgrounds with access to much needed finance in order to advance their business aspirations. It is a known fact that as a country we have been confronted with many socio-economic challenges which have forced women to engage in businesses so that they can feed their families and reduce poverty.
The municipality saw this initiative as a pressing need to empower, capacitate and support women-led informal businesses in commemoration of the women’s month.
In light of this and the fact that our Municipality knows full well that our local economy cannot succeed without a conducive environment, we took a radical decision to assist.
The municipality, through the Mayoral donations budget, will assist the informal traders with business support of a minimum of R500 to a maximum of R10 000 per person in the form of a grant to the informal women traders.
