Midvaal Local Municipality fully condemns the illegal occupation of land. This after the Municipality has been experiencing numerous land invasion and illegal occupation of land incidents, the most recent being the land invasion which occurred in Wildebeesfontein.
This land invasion in Wildebeesfontein resulted in the construction of about 130 illegal shacks on Municipal owned land earmarked for future development. The Municipality successfully obtained an urgent court order on the 10th April 2019 which enabled the demolition of all the 130 illegal shacks that were erected on the 17th May 2019.
Property owners of vacant stands, are hereby encouraged to take the necessary steps to safeguard their properties by barricading or fencing off their properties; erecting necessary signage stating that it is a private property and trespassers will be prosecuted.

The Midvaal Local Municipality condemns any acts of land invasion and urges all residents to refrain from these illegal activities. The Council has adopted a Human Settlements Plan (HSP) which is a holistic municipal housing plan.
The (HSP) provides housing opportunities for intended beneficiaries, the housing demand has been incorporated in the plan and land invasion compromises the objective of the plan. Land invasion further affects the municipal service delivery plans, appropriate housing locations and housing demand.
Residents in need of housing opportunities are advised to register on the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements (GDHS) Housing Database, the GDHS Customer Support Centre is located at Number 1 Loch Street, Meyerton, Telephone number: 016 360 7700 / 7725.
Registering on the (GDHS) Housing Database will enable the department to plan and provide qualifying beneficiaries with different housing opportunities such as the Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP), Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP), Serviced Sites, and Rentals.
