COUNCIL RECOMMENDS DISCIPLINARY ACTION AGAINST SUSPENDED DEPUTY MUNICIPAL MANAGER

After council met to consider a report submitted by an independent investigator. The report recommended due to Prima facie evidence found by the investigator, that the suspended Deputy Municipal Manager face a disciplinary process. All parties present at council unanimously agreed to the process as the report recommended.

The Midvaal Local Municipality’s council on the 2nd of April 2019 has resolved that the Deputy Municipal Manager face a disciplinary process as per the recommendations of an independent investigation.

This follows allegations of corruption relating to irregular and undue recruitment processes by the Deputy Municipal Manager. The official had been given until Wednesday, the 6th of March to provide written representation to why he should not be placed on suspension. A special sitting of council was then convened on Thursday, 7th of March and determine on record the official was to be suspended pending the outcomes of the investigation.

The municipality views the aforementioned allegations to be of a serious nature and will ensure that due process is followed in a fair and transparent manner. All persons are considered by law, to be innocent until proven guilty.

We wish to re affirm our commitment to ensuring political office bearers and officials alike are held accountable to the highest standards upheld by our residents to this municipality. We like to reiterate that it the Municipality continues to function as normal.
