The Midvaal Local Municipality has placed a Senior Manager in the Corporate Services Department on special leave and further served him with notice of intention to suspend in terms of regulation 6 of Precautionary Suspension of the Government Gazette of 21 April 2011.
This follows allegations of corruption relating to irregular and undue recruitment processes.
The official has been given until Wednesday, 6 March to provide written representation to why he should not be placed on suspension. A special sitting of council will convene on Thursday, 7 March to determine on record whether the official will be suspended pending the outcomes of the investigation.
The municipality views the aforementioned allegations to be of a serious nature and will ensure that due process is followed in a fair and transparent manner. All persons are considered by law, to be innocent until proven guilty.
We wish to reaffirm our commitment to transparency, honesty and good governance.
We continue to appeal to anyone with information pertaining to the allegations of “jobs for sale” to come forward and assist with investigations.
If someone wants to report in person, he or she can do so at the Director Human Resources, Mr Patrick Rampai or the Assistant Director Performance Management, Ms Retha van Greune at the Civic Centre in Michell Street, Meyerton.
