MIDVAAL LOCAL MUNICIPALITY REFUTES AND CONDEMNS FALSE CLAIMS BY THE FREEDOM FRONT PLUS

The Midvaal Local Municipality wishes to refute and condemn false allegations and claims made by the Freedom Front Plus relating to housing developments in Golf Park and Henley On Klip.

The statement made by the Freedom Front Plus is not correct and is misleading. The Executive Mayor of the Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) has not promised any low-cost housing development in Golf Park nor has he approved same.

Since the municipality was made aware of the proposed mixed housing development by the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements (GDHS), attempts were made to establish the extent and impact of the development on the municipality as well as the surrounding communities.

MLM does not have the competency to implement housing projects and it is equally important to indicate that the MLM has not received a formal application for township establishment as required by applicable legislation. Hence it is not true that the development has been approved by the Executive Mayor.

It is with the above background that MLM arranged a consultative meeting with the Henley on Klip and Golf Park communities with the intention to share information on the development and the recourse for the community. The meetings were scheduled for Golf Park on the 26th September 2018 and Henley on Klip for the 3rd October 2018 respectively. At the meeting in Golf Park the Executive Mayor assured the community that the MLM will share the information with regard to the projects as it becomes available to the MLM and advised the community to use the right to object to the development as provided for by legislation and to register as interested and affected parties.

It is repeated and emphasised that at this stage no formal application has been received by MLM, and no application has been approved by either MLM or Executive Mayor.
