In celebration of Women’s Month, Midvaal Local Municipality’s Speaker, Cllr Freddie Peters, hosted an Empowerment Session for Young Women on 30 August 2018. The event was held at the Meyerton Town Hall, and over 100 women attended and benefited from the day.
The programme was carefully crafted to include a variety of items and topics, and speakers were of the highest calibre, ensuring that each aspect of the event was thoroughly enjoyed.
One of the highlights of the programme was Ms Vinolia Mabele, the current Miss UN International, and Miss Africa, who delivered a speech on social entrepreneurship and image. Ms Mmatumelo Makhobotloane, a beautician, shared a presentation on make-up, Ms Amelia Tsukudu, Midvaal MMC discussed the importance of public participation and a motivational speech was presented by Ms Lynda Parsonson, the Gender Committee Chairperson. In addition, there was a self defence demonstration, and entertainment in the form of dancing. The diverse programme was a reflection of the varied interests of young women today.
